Where the Journey of Laurentiu Stefan Mocanu Began?

Early Journey from Romania to the World
My story begins in Constanța, Romania. From there, at just 19 years old, I left home with a dream to explore the world and build something greater. For seven years, I worked on cruise ships, including Royal Caribbean International, rising from busboy to restaurant manager. Those years gave me resilience, discipline, and leadership skills in fast-paced, multicultural environments.
Seeking new challenges, I moved to the United States on an H2B visa. I started as a mover, then became a driver, and later managed a private club in Florida. When my visa expired, I moved to London, where I worked as a restaurant manager, cost controller, and hotel operations coordinator.
Later, I returned to the U.S., working first as a mover and then at a furniture factory. During this time, I mastered every stage of carpentry, from CNC cutting to crown molding, painting, and installation. By this point, I had been a hotel manager, restaurant manager, cost controller, driver, and carpenter. Each role gave me new skills, but something was still missing: a deeper purpose.
Service in the U.S. Navy
That purpose came when I joined the United States Navy. Serving as an electrician and “oil king,” I developed resilience, responsibility, and leadership under some of the most demanding conditions. The Navy shaped me into who I am today: disciplined, mission-driven, and committed to service.

Academic Growth and Degrees
After retiring from the Navy, I focused on education. At National University in San Diego, I earned:
- Bachelor of Science in Financial Management (BSFM)
- Master of Business Administration (MBA)
- Master of Arts in Human Resource Management (MAHRM)
- Master of Arts in Human Behavior Psychology (MAHUB)
Balancing work, studies, and personal challenges, I even drove Uber to cover expenses while completing three master’s degrees with honors. These years reinforced the importance of self-awareness, perseverance, and aligning personal growth with professional goals.

The Journey Behind Design Your Destiny
Life has never been a straight path for me. From leaving Romania at 19 with only ambition, to working on cruise ships, moving companies, and hotels, to eventually serving in the U.S. Navy, I have lived through countless challenges and fresh starts.
When I came back to San Diego in 2022, after spending the COVID-19 period in Romania with my family, I started again with only a suitcase and $1,000. I walked to interviews — my record was 37,000 steps in one day — just to secure opportunities. Later, while finishing three master’s degrees with honors, I drove for Uber to cover my bills.
This period tested my resilience like never before. However, it also reinforced the principles that guide me today: clarity, discipline, and perseverance. These experiences inspired me to create Design Your Destiny, a program built from real struggles, not theory.
This course is a practical roadmap, broken into short, powerful lessons with exercises and tests. Anyone can apply its principles of self-mastery, goal setting, and leadership to transform their life.
My Philosophy and Identity
My journey taught me that personal and professional growth cannot be separated. Real success happens when you align your inner self with your external goals.
To symbolize this belief, I created a personal mandala. It represents resilience from the Navy, discipline from academia, creativity from entrepreneurship, and balance from personal growth. It reminds me that life is both a mission and a journey.
